The art of hand-block printing

A visit to a fourth-generation block-printing family in Jaipur. Every imperfection is the signature of a human hand. The wooden blocks are carved from sheesham wood, soaked in mustard oil for days to soften the grain.

Natural dyes from madder root, indigo, and pomegranate rind create palettes that shift slightly batch to batch. This is not inconsistency — it is the poetry of process.
